232% funded! And new Stretch Goal
almost 3 years ago – Tue, Jun 27, 2023 at 10:06:12 AM

Double-checked the math this time :)

We're creeping up there steadily, topping 232% funded! Thanks again for your enthusiastic support and encouragement.

I'm going to be on another podcast soon, and I've been reaching out to other influencers. I'm having so much fun with this book, and the enthusiasm from all of your is spreading.

To celebrate how well we're trending, I'm going to set up a Zoom call as a special stretch goal when we hit $4,800. It'll be a call open to all backers of the campaign to chat with me. We'll discuss the book, the magic, the world of Bacon Master, along with our favorite recipes and dad jokes ad more. Can't wait!

I'd love your comments on when would be a good time to meet. I'll create a list of options for a poll, but do you prefer weekends or weeknights?

And today I just uploaded chapter 9 of the book onto Patreon. The Mixing Bowl of Divine Intervention is so fun. You can come read it there, along with other posted chapters by signing up for a free 7 day trial. Just read the chapters and cancel before the week is up. I'd love to hear your comments.

Thanks!

So I'm bad at math - but I'm good at writing!
almost 3 years ago – Thu, Jun 22, 2023 at 07:35:35 PM

Yeah, you probably noticed in my last update that my math was off a bit. We hit 200% funded = $4,000. So I mixed the numbers and called it 400%.

We're still trending upward, and we've got some fun promotions running this week that should help keep the momentum rolling.

Please continue to tell your family and friends about Bacon Master, and sign up for Kickbooster to earn commissions while sharing the campaign.

====================

On another note, I'm struggling with a decision. I have written a prologue for the book, but it's more a series-level prologue than a book-level prologue. Trying to decide if I should include it, or leave it out.

I'd like your thoughts.

Concept art - Geshwind - death fairy glowan

Here's part of the chapter:

Geshwind had come to the Rubric Empire, and he carried the apocalypse with him.

As a fell lord of the glowan Bitter Court, he'd won the right to lead the assault that would usher in the end of the hated human empire.

He tried to savor the moment, but his new body fit so poorly, he couldn’t quite manage to feel epic enough. Geshwind sighed and glanced down at his misshapen form.

“This is taking too long,” he muttered, surprising the dozen glowan creatures attending him in the spacious farm kitchen he’d appropriated as his temporary command center.

“It’s an excellent specimen,” said Ostinato in her soft feline voice, rising from her haunches to pad around him.

The large, white cat glowed faintly in the light of the single, dim lantern, the only indication of her innate powers.

“It will be fine soon enough,” he acknowledged. He hated waiting.

He towered over her, and at least his face already looked supernaturally handsome. The body of the deathmaster the hellhounds had captured for him hung far too loose, even though he wore the man’s bones too.

A deathmaster, the human caretaker of the dead, was a perfect choice, but the fellow had been immensely fat. Rolls of loose, black cloth draped over Geshwind’s sparse frame, concealing the many rolls of loose skin underneath, still not filled out to perfect form. The skin would shrink to fit, as would the clothing, but for the moment he looked like a child wearing his father’s suit.

Not the image he hoped to project on the big night of their invasion.

The clothing would suffice, but he glared at the corpse’s cursed hat, lying across the pile of flesh that marked what had once been a human. He shuddered to think of the lower changelings sometimes forced to endure the risk of putting on a human hat.

The one piece of clothing he'd brought to the new body was his cape. Tonight it chose to appear as midnight blue, and it billowed slowly around him, despite the lack of wind.

Geshwind tried to regain his feeling of destiny by considering the mighty horde of monstrous forces flowing with inhuman silence toward the city, without lamps or torches, moving like wraiths of living shadow. The unsuspecting humans patrolling the high city walls knew nothing of the doom creeping ever closer.

The metropolis of Ehverr was a key stronghold of the Rubric Empire, garrisoned by a mighty host, including full contingents of all of their battle wizards and mages. They were proud and confident.

The fools.

They’d assumed his horde would attack the fortresses situated closer to the border of his homeland, and indeed, many of the weaker glowan had protested his plan to circumvent them. It could be hard to resist such a tempting target, but this time they would prove themselves mightier and cleverer than the humans ever imagined.

The thought filled him with pride, triggering his bloodlust. They would savage the city of Ehverr, and that was just the beginning. His host would sweep across the land, laying waste—

The door banged open, interrupting his thoughts, and Nonet rushed inside in human form, looking like an eager young man. Ostinato’s mate lacked her decorum as he waved to the other creatures packing the room.

“It’s a treasure trove,” Nonet grinned, placing a short, covered bowl onto the floor with reverent care. He dropped a small sack, and foodstuffs spilled out, a ham, a small cheese, and several vegetables.

Other glowan recoiled from the dangerous fare, and Ostinato hissed, “What are you doing?”

“It’s fresh,” Nonet assured them. “You haven’t seen such beauty in decades, my love.”

With a flourish, he removed the cover over the bowl, revealing white, creamy milk filling it to the brim.

With a groan of pleasure, Nonet recklessly transformed into his sleek, black cat form and started lapping eagerly at the milk. Ostinato crept forward, tail lashing, ears perked before catching herself and restraining her curiosity.

Nonet glanced up long enough to say, “Do you have any idea how long it’s been since I’ve enjoyed fresh milk, harvested by a pretty girl’s supple young hands, still untainted by the powers of the milk mages?”

“You get carried away, love,” Ostinato cautioned, glancing at Geshwind, who was watching the exchange with growing irritation. Nonet was brilliant in many ways, but he was ruining a moment weighted with purpose and glory.

Geshwind stepped closer, drawing Nonet’s gaze, preparing to reprimand the foolish changeling for his levity and recklessness, but Nonet’s eyes widened at the sight of him and he snorted.

When he did so, he managed to sniff a bunch of milk right up his nose. He staggered back, hissing and spitting milk everywhere.

Geshwind sighed. His moment was ruined. His cloak sensed his mood and tried billowing dramatically around him, but no one even seemed to notice the gesture. . .

So, what do you think? Should I include this at the start of the book?

Thanks!

A quick update this morning.  The steady climb is continuing. We've reached 184% funded! Thanks so much for helping to keep the momentum building. I hope today we hit the $4000 mark so I can unlock the next stretch goal.

I also received a question that I wanted to answer to everyone in case anyone else is interested. The question was - is there a place to read any excerpts of the book?

Yes.

I've been posting chapters on my Patreon, which I recently created. You can actually try it for free for a week. Plenty of time to read the first few chapters. You can become a patron, or cancel before the week is out.

First Stretch goal UNLOCKED!
almost 3 years ago – Wed, Jun 14, 2023 at 08:54:26 AM

Bacon Master of the Apocalypse is still rockin' on. We've exceeded 150% of our initial funding goal!

THANK YOU ALL!

Momentum is building, like the smell of bacon frying in the kitchen, making us hungry, and drawing us inexorably in for second breakfast.

And to add spice to the mix, we've unlocked the first stretch goal!

This one is going to be fun! I'll be compiling ideas for fans to vote on what to include. In particular, I'll be seeking input from all of you for making it happen, and from patrons on my new Patreon page.

More to come soon.

Again, thanks for your enthusiastic support, and for helping share this campaign and spread the awesomeness of Bacon Master far and wide.
